Education I am concerned that our children are not receiving an adequate education, much less a quality education. Education is the great equalizer between the rich and the poor. It is better to put more money in to education than building jails. The school funding issue is a test for this State. In essence, our decisions on this topic dictate the quality of life we want for the families here in NH. The school funding issue tests New Hampshire voters because it asks an important question. Are broad-based taxes such as an income tax or sales tax necessary to pay for it? We have been debating this issue for over ten years. In fact, this debate is costing us money (issuance of pink slips and setting up COBRA insurance because there is no funding coming into a budget year). The State Supreme Court is currently defining what is an “adequate education” for our children and this has many people concerned because "adequate" is not what we want for our children's futures. Quality education doesn't necessarily depend exclusively on more money. There are so many education models that work in providing a quality education and they all revolve around inspiring the children to learn. This State needs a State Funding Budget that could be produced on a cost-averaging of current expenditures over the last ten years.
