a law that doubled and in some cases tripled
the cost of health coverage in our area.

requiring employees to fill out detailed, intrusive forms
about their health histories.

This bill prohibited insurance companies from
discriminating against small businesses in the North Country. |

in what is called “Purchasing Alliances”. |

The purpose of the
bill is to increase affordability, efficiency and fairness of health
insurance and allows small businesses and their employees to reduce the
cost of purchasing health insurance. |

students on medical leave of absence. |

This is known as "Michelle’s
Law", named after a Plymouth State student Michelle Morse, who had to
remain enrolled in college in order to maintain health insurance coverage
after being diagnosed with colon cancer. The disease took her life in
November 2005. |
